The CCA Trustees would first of all like to wish all our Association members, hirers and users of the Centre a Happy Easter.
The Centre management team continues to be very active in looking at ways we can generate the necessary finances needed for the various improvements required at the Centre. The Committee has submitted a number of grant applications through various organisations for improvements to the floor and replacement of the internal ceiling of the main hall and the renovation of the kitchen.
We are now delighted to report that we have been successful with one of these applications from the Big Lottery for the refurbishment of the hall floor and have received a grant of £6500. This is the original floor installed in 1988 and, whilst it has received some maintenance during that time, the Committee realised that the flooring needed to be refurbished professionally this year. Granwood, the original manufacturers, will undertake the complete repair, re-sanding, sealing and polishing of the floor during the school summer holidays – this will mean the closure of the Centre for around 7 days.
Unfortunately we were unsuccessful with our application for funding of the ceiling however the good news is that the financial provision we had been accruing on a monthly basis for the floor refurbishment will now be used to replace the internal ceiling over the Easter holidays.
This month sees the start of a Rainbows group on a Wednesday at 16.15 and we have been busy trying to re-arrange our storage facilities to accommodate this group and we appreciate the assistance the Brownies group has provided.
Also you may have seen the various posters on social media regarding the weekly Baby & Toddlers group (Mini-Monkeys) which started off in February and has been well attended on a Tuesday afternoon. Roxanne and her Committee have worked very hard to get this group underway and provide an outlet for Mums and their children to meet up and make new friends. A big thank you from the Committee for providing an additional social facility for the Community of Chellaston and the surrounding area.
Our bookings for weekend hires, in particular children’s parties, continues to be very popular and in some instances we are having to take two follow on bookings on a particular day to avoid disappointment to parents. If you are thinking of planning a party at the Centre over the next couple of months please refer to the diary on our website which shows current availability www.chellastoncommunityassociation.co.uk
We have finalised our plans regarding the facilities the Association will provide in support of the forthcoming Spirit of Chellaston event on Saturday 20th June 2015. The Centre will provide hot and cold refreshments and open the main hall and the garden for the benefit of all as well as providing a bouncy castle in the garden. To try and minimise the queues for refreshments we plan to serve a range of cold drinks from the large meeting room. Profits made will be ploughed back into Centre improvements.
Finally we would like to express our thanks to Phil Bailey, one of our Chellaston councillors who is moving away from Chellaston. Phil has been very active in helping this Committee return the Association into a financially viable operation and assist with the physical improvements we have made to the Centre. We wish him well on his new overseas adventure.
