This month sees the Spirit of Chellaston event on Swarkestone Road park adjacent to the Community Centre and Library. The organisers have been very busy in bringing together over 40 local societies, groups and businesses who will be showcasing their activities and demonstrating what is on offer for the residents of Chellaston. Entertainment throughout the afternoon will be provided by Chellaston Academy, Chellaston Infant School, community dance groups and church and community choirs. There will also be kiddie’s rides, face painting and fun games to suit all age groups as well as art and craft displays.
We will be preparing the outdoor garden area over the next couple of weeks in readiness for the event and would like to thank John and his team at Swarkestone Nursery for donating the beautiful hanging baskets around the garden.
On the day the CCA team will be hard at work in the Community Centre kitchen from the early hours to ensure that we have sufficient refreshments on hand for both visitors to the event and the volunteers who will man the stalls on the park. We do hope you will come and enjoy some refreshments either in the hall or the garden, please put the date in your diary Saturday 20th June 2015 12 – 5pm.
If you have visited or indeed passed by the front of the Community Centre recently you may have noticed that we have installed an external noticeboard to the side of the main doors, together with new lighting. We managed to purchase the board having received a grant from the East Midlands Airport Community Group and will display our monthly newsletter along with posters for various events and general information regarding hiring the Centre.
We had a successful coffee and cake morning during the Spring Bank holiday week which enabled members of Chellaston groups and societies to come together and enjoy some refreshments and at the same time meet up with friends, neighbours and colleagues. The CCA has limited availability to hold mid week coffee mornings at the Centre during school term time however we intend to organise some cream tea events during the school summer holidays in August, look out for the posters advertising the event dates.
We have now finalised our dates when the hall floor refurbishment will take place following our successful application for funding from the Big Lottery. The Centre will be closed for 7 days, Monday to Sunday week commencing Monday 17th August 2015. Whilst the work will take up to 5 days we need to allow sufficient time for the curing process of the sealants that will be applied, hence the 7 day closure. Prior to this we are planning some internal decoration of the hall during the school summer holidays.
The Committee continue to look for grant opportunities for the range of improvements and refurbishments we would like to carry out at the Centre. If you are a business or indeed a grant provider that may be able to assist us in some way then please contact us at enquiries@chellastoncommunityassociation.co.uk.
Finally we have an Irish dancing class activity which has started on a Friday starting at 16.30, contact Ciara Comerford on 07769259512 for more details or call in on a Friday during school term.
