Hello and welcome to our September newsletter.
We hope that you have enjoyed your summer holidays and perhaps now back to normality with the children returning to school. Last month saw 3 weeks of maintenance tasks undertaken at the Centre with the main area of work being to upgrade the premises following the fire risk assessment undertaken in 2016. You will possibly not see much change apart from various doors being replaced with modern looking ash faced doors, however behind the scenes fire partitions have been installed, a new fire alarm control panel and distribution board as well as installation of a number of fire rated doors. We hope to complete all the remaining work at the October half term break to minimise any disruption to our regular hirers.
We have made significant progress in renewing our lease for the Centre with the landlord Derby City Council. Our new lease term will cover a 15 year period and in the short term will have similar conditions to the current arrangements. We look forward to this lease being signed off at the end of this month thereby meeting one of the conditions set by a grant funding provider for monies associated with the toilet refurbishment project.
Our application for status as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) has now been accepted by the Charities Commission and accordingly we will present this at the forthcoming AGM in October for ratification. What does it mean? Well it is similar to setting up a limited company such that the trustees are indemnified from any possible financial obligation. Our charity details can be found of the Charity Commission website and our registered number is 1173163.
Our new website www.chellastonca.org continues to operate well after a few teething problems and within our documents page we have included a copy of the CIO for anyone interested.. The website allows potential hirers with the opportunity to view the premises, review the diary of events booked and furthermore make an on line application for hiring the premises. Of course you can easily speak to Joyce our Bookings Secretary on 07895386433 if you find that easier. If she is not answering please leave a message and we will get back to you, alternatively e mail enquiries@chellastonca.org.
Next month we will be holding our Annual General Meeting on Saturday 14th October 2017 at 10.30am in the Community Centre. It is a requirement of the Charities Commission and our Constitution that we hold this event and furthermore attract sufficient residents to enable the meeting to take place. It normally lasts no more than an hour followed by complimentary refreshments and provides an opportunity for you to hear about the performance of the Association over the past 12 months. We will review our finances and elect a new committee, these being Trustees of the Association, as well as answer any questions residents may have regarding the Association’s operation. With this in mind perhaps you would like to consider being part of the Association’s team either volunteering occasionally or indeed seeking election as a Trustee of the CCA and part of the Management Committee in making decisions about the Centre operation. Certainly we could do with some more members joining our team and if you would like further information on the role of a Trustee for the CCA please give our current Chairman, Dave Cartwright, a call on 07891954892.
