Hello and welcome to our November newsletter.
Our Annual General Meeting was held last month at the Community Centre when the Chairman, Dave Cartwright, reported the last 12 months performance. Residents heard that the Association is in a sound financial position and continues to be a popular venue for up to 20 regular activities together with being a sought after facility for individual hirers wishing to hold private events.
The imminent signing of a new 15 year lease with Derby City Council will now provide the opportunity to look for further financial grant opportunities for modernisation projects at the Centre and also ensure that we have repair and maintenance cover undertaken by the landlord.
A new constitution, that of a Charitable Incorporated Organisation, was ratified at the meeting which means our elected Trustees are indemnified from any potential liabilities. A new committee was elected, members being Trustees of the Association however the Association still continues to look for volunteers who can assist with the running of the Centre in some way.
Last month Derby City Council carried out a 3 yearly audit of our premises and procedures in respect of Health and Safety and we are pleased to report that we passed the test with flying colours.
The Centre continues to offer a variety of activities across a wide age profile. Pre-school activities are undertaken by Playdays Opportunity Group who operate five mornings and two afternoons during the school terms. Brownie groups meet Monday and Tuesdays early evening, fitness in the form of Zumba, Pilates, Yoga, Otago and Tae Kwondo take place during the week and at the weekends. Our over 60’s Monday Club has returned for the winter season where you have the opportunity to play some indoor sports and we also have a slimming group which has started on an early Friday evening so plenty of opportunities for Chellaston residents to take part.
