Hello and welcome to our December 2017 newsletter.
We are pleased to announce that at last we have signed a new 15 year lease for the Community Centre with Derby City Council and this has enabled the Trustees to secure some funding towards the refurbishment of the main lobby toilets in 2018 from Veolia Environmental Trust. Furthermore having a long term lease in place now gives us the springboard to look for other grant funding outlets to continue with the centre modernisation programme we have set ourselves.
During half term most of the outstanding fire related issues were completed by the landlord, in particular the installation of a disabled ramp to the south doors leading into the garden which makes further improvements to wheelchair access at the Centre. We look forward to finalising this work with the installation of the kitchen shutter later this month during the school Christmas break.
We continue to have plenty of weekly activities taking place at the Centre and our calendar on the website www.chellastonca.org provides details. We have a new class starting in January for children in our large meeting room on a Friday after school. Fun French for kids is being run by Louise on 07803772886 and you can see more details on the poster displayed on the Chellaston Community Association facebook page or on our news page on the website.
Since September the Centre has been in use most weekends for individual events and our records show that this has been the busiest year so far. We would therefore recommend that if you are planning a child’s party for 2018 then you book early to avoid any disappointment. Our secure garden during the Spring, Summer and Autumn provides the opportunity for larger inflatable equipment to be used to what can be accommodated inside the main hall. Check out the calendar for 2018 availability.
St Peter’s Church in Chellaston has an annual Christmas Tree Festival held in the Church running in parallel with their Christmas Fayre which will take place in the Church hall on Saturday December 9th. The theme this year is the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. The Church is open on both Saturday & Sunday December 9th & 10th to view the beautifully decorated trees and we will be displaying a tree representing all the regular hirers of the Community Centre. We do hope residents and hirers will take the opportunity to visit the Tree festival at St Peter’s Church during this weekend.
Don’t forget the Spirit of Chellaston Christmas Tree Lighting Event will take place on Saturday 9th December at R&R’s Sports Bar from 5pm onwards. The event will follow a similar format to previous years i.e. the switch on of the lights followed by songs and carols by the Community Choir along with refreshments.
Finally the Trustees of Chellaston Community Association would like to take the opportunity to wish Hirers and Users of the Community Centre together with residents of Chellaston a very Merry Christmas and prosperous New Year and we look forward to your continued patronage of the Centre and support in 2018.
