Hello and welcome to our March newsletter.
The recent school half term break provided a good opportunity for our volunteers to carry out some essential jobs at the Centre and with the days getting longer we can soon start the garden maintenance duties in preparation for the Spring, Summer and Autumn months when the “party” season is in full flow with individual hirers setting up inflatable equipment for their children’s events. We are normally around at the Centre on a Monday afternoon so if we have any willing volunteers who would like to spend an hour or so with us “pottering” around the garden with a spot of weeding and tidying up you would be most welcome.
The Spirit of Chellaston team held its first meeting of 2018 last month to plan the details of the event which will take place on Saturday 16th June 2018 from 12.00 on Swarkestone Road Recreation Ground. Please make a note in your diaries to ensure that you can be part of this Community event. Anyone wishing to have a stall should contact the events team, details are on the SOC facebook page. The CCA will once again be undertaking the refreshment side of the event with the Centre being used for somewhere to rest your feet and make use of our facilities. If you would like to help on the day for an hour or so behind the refreshment counter or indeed perhaps donate a cake please get in touch with us on 07895386433 or contact one of the Committee.
We have placed the contract for the toilet refurbishment project with a specialised washroom provider and work will commence on Saturday 24th March for a 2 week period when the main areas of the Centre will be out of action.
The Trustees currently have plans to make natural light improvements to the building by enlarging the existing windows facing the garden. This should brighten the adjoining rooms to the main hall and hopefully offer a better environment within the large meeting room. In addition we intend to introduce two new windows within the hall annexe to assist with natural light improvements in the main hall. This work is however subject to obtaining some grant assistance and we are busily making applications with the aim of trying to secure some funding in time for this work being carried out in the school summer holiday period, we’ll keep you updated on the progress being made.
Finally a reminder if you are looking for a venue for your child’s birthday party please have a look on our website www.chellastonca.org where you can view our diary for availability along with pictures of our premises.
