Hello and welcome to our June 2018 newsletter.
This month is a busy time in our calendar with preparations underway for the Spirit of Chellaston event to be held on Saturday 16th June on Swarkestone Road Recreation Ground starting at 12.00. It is a great opportunity for families and friends to meet up, enjoy the entertainment in the marquee, visit the many local groups and organisations who will be offering a wide range of products and information. For the younger family members Appletons funfair will be here, facepainting, Rammie and no doubt a few other surprises.
The Community Centre will be the focal point for various facilities and of course somewhere to enjoy the opportunity to rest those weary legs. The Committee will once again be serving refreshments throughout the day which will include filled rolls, traditional hot dogs and a range of homemade cakes along with hot and cold drinks. We hope for similar weather to last year and of course look forward to seeing as many visitors as possible, any profits being put towards the Centre modernisation programme.
Before the SOC event we have a visit to the Community Centre by the Police and Crime Commissioner for Derbyshire, Hardyal Dhindsa, on Wednesday 6th June from 15.30 to 16.15. Hosted by our colleagues the CRA this is an opportunity for residents to raise policing, community safety and crime issues with the Commissioner and Ward councillors.
Hiring the Community Centre for individual private events continues to be popular especially for children’s birthday parties and we are now seeing a varied range of party themes taking place. Soft play for the younger ones, the traditional bouncy castle, ball pit, magicians, messy play, bugs and bones and a science rocks theme are just some of the different entertainments to be held at the Centre.
If you are interested in planning an event please go to our website www.chellastonca.org and check out our facilities along with the diary which will show availability. We aim to keep Saturdays free all day as well as a 4 hour Sunday afternoon period for party hires. If you prefer to speak to someone our Bookings Secretary can be contacted on 07895386433.
Finally our thanks go out to John Jackson and his team at Swarkestone Nursery for once again providing the beautiful hanging baskets we are displaying on the fencing within the garden area. We will endeavour to ensure the baskets provide a continual display of flowers throughout the summer months for the benefit of our hirers and users of the Centre.
