Hello and welcome to our newsletter.

3 months into the year and we now look forward to spending some time tending to the Centre garden in readiness for the spring and summer months. We see plenty of use for the garden during these times especially for children’s parties where the opportunity exists to set up larger inflatable equipment which we are unable to accommodate in the hall.

The refurbishment of our large meeting room is now complete following the installation of new lighting and more comfy chairs. This room is 36 square metres and is self contained with a disabled/uni-sex toilet, baby changing facilities, kitchen and a separate entrance. It is ideal for small group activities, meetings, mother and baby groups as well as coffee mornings. Competitively priced we have daytime and evenings available to hire. For enquiries about hiring at the Centre you can contact us on line via our website www.chellastonca.org or call us on 07895386433.

The CCA is in the process of replacing the High Street notice board which is in a poor condition. It is also currently in a location adjacent to the defunct toilet block which we believe is now subject to a plan for disposal. As a result we have been working with our Ward Councillors to find a new site in close proximity to the existing location and are hopeful that in the coming weeks the new board will be in place. We have been able to finance the purchase and installation of the board with funding assistance from Persimmons, East Midlands Airport Community Fund and Foundation Derbyshire and our thanks go out to these organisations for their help. This new board provides the opportunity for Community Groups to display information about themselves as well as forthcoming activities being held within the Chellaston neighbourhood and we look forward to residents benefiting from this acquisition.

Looking ahead the 2019 Derby Walking festival will see a celebration of walking and walks throughout the city taking place from Saturday 18 May to Sunday 26 May. The festival will commence at Chellaston Brickworks Nature Reserve on Saturday 18th May at 10am with a free “Hidden History” walk, meeting at the Car Park in Bensley Close. For more information on this particular walk please go to inderby.org.uk/walkingfestival

Finally we continue to look for volunteers to join our team who would like to get involved with the management of Chellaston Community Centre. Perhaps you can bring some new ideas to the table or possibly just want to provide assistance wherever. Volunteering roles are not too demanding and enable you to understand how as a Charity we operate on a day to day basis. If you can help contact us via our website or call 07895386433.
