Hello Everyone

By the time this article is published the Association will have elected a new committee and next month we will report on the key points from the Annual General Meeting which was held on the 31st October 2015 at the Community Centre.

Over the past few weeks committee members and volunteers have been tidying up the garden and pruning the shrubs we have planted over the past 2 years and we look forward to seeing a similar floral display next spring and summer. Our thanks once again go to John and his team at Swarkestone Nurseries for providing the excellent baskets which provided a wonderful display throughout the summer months.

We now have over 20 regular weekly users of the Centre covering a wide range of activities, our calendar on the website www.chellastoncommunityassociation.co.uk provides more information and the times they are in the Centre. We continue to receive enquiries both for regular events and individual hires and unfortunately at peak times we are not able to meet their requirements. We do now have space available in the main hall on a Tuesday from 16.00 to 17.15. However we have a 36 sq metre room with separate access, toilet and kitchen which is now available during most times of the week and may be ideal for a smaller activity you have a mind. Give Joyce a call on 07895386433 if you would like to enquire about it, photos of the room can be viewed on our website.

We have a creative media course operating on a Thursday afternoon from 3 to 5pm in the large meeting room run by Dan and Sharon of Trident Reach. This is free and open to 16 to 24 year olds with a key aim of producing a youth magazine. If you are interested and would like more information either visit the team on a Thursday afternoon or contact Sharron Rafferty on 01283 226 136 or visit the website www.reachthecharity.org.uk

We are once again for the winter months promoting the use of the Centre on a Saturday for a family and friend’s games evening. For an inclusive price of £25 per hour you can hire the Centre and we provide a range of indoor games facilities including 2 pool tables, air hockey, table tennis, table football, indoor bowls or badminton. We have full kitchen facilities along with various rooms for use. So should you and your friends/neighbours want to consider getting together to arrange an event have a look at available dates on our website mentioned early or contact us on 07895386433.

One of the local AA meetings has moved to the Centre with the first meeting on Sunday 1st November at 6.00pm Further details of the meeting or AA can be obtained  by telephone  0115 941 7100 ( 24 hrs) or at the national website http://www.alcoholics-anonymous.org.uk/
Just a reminder as we move towards Christmas with on line shopping. One way residents of Chellaston who shop with various retailers, such as Amazon for example, could help us is by creating an account with the easy fundraising organisation www.easyfundraising.org.uk. Chellaston Community Association has registered as a worthy cause and once you have registered for our cause and logged into your account you have the opportunity to link directly into a host of retailers. This will take you to their webpage so it does not affect the normal transaction you would make; the Association receives a small percentage donation so it is one way of helping raise funds at no cost to you.

Finally please make a note of Saturday 5th December in your diaries. The inaugural Spirit of Chellaston Christmas Event will take place in the grounds of Chellaston Club (The Legion) 5.30pm for 6pm, with the ‘Switch on’ of the ‘Spirit of Christmas’ tree lights together with community singing of Christmas songs and carols, led by the Community and Church choirs.  Refreshments including mulled wine, mince pies etc will be available. The organisers hope that this will be the start of an annual event and it has been timed to coincide with St. Peter’s Christmas Fair and Christmas Tree Festival.  We hope that residents will support this new event, it is aimed at all age groups and is intended to kick start the ‘Christmas Spirit’ for everyone.
