Hello Everyone

The Community Association Trustees & Management Committee of Chellaston Community Centre would like to extend a warm welcome to you for 2016. We look forward to your continued support over the coming year in our endeavours to promote and maintain the work of the Association in expanding the activities and facilities which your Centre provides for the use of Chellaston and surrounding area residents.

We now have a solid foundation to work with in both our financial position and the number of regular groups who continue to use our Centre for a wide range of activities. The current committee will continue to drive forward changes which will provide more opportunities for groups wishing to find suitable facilities to start an activity during peak hire times.

The availability of our self contained west end room throughout the daytime and evening is providing an additional facility for various activities within Chellaston especially with the closure of the Golden Hour building. It is planned to double the size of this room in the future into a multi-purpose suite with financing being provided through an allocation of Section 106 new housing development funds. The Committee has started the initial design process on the future building extension and will showcase this to residents in the coming months.

Have you thought that maybe at the start of the New Year you need to take some more ‘me’ time, take a bit of time out each week to work on your own body, relax and reflect? Perhaps the new Pilates matwork classes starting at Chellaston Community Centre on January the 7th will help and at the same time they will help improve your posture, balance and tone your abs. Thursday morning class at 9:45-10:45am or a Thursday evening class at 7:15pm-8:15pm in our west end room (adjacent to the main road). For more information contact Tamara on 07817136011 or T.ditheridge@icloud.com. Alternatively we have Pole fitness classes on a Monday evening and Thursday teatime, Yoga on a Monday, Zumba on a Tuesday evening, an Insanity fitness class on a Wednesday evening so plenty of exercise opportunities to consider.
Unfortunately the Mini Monkeys mother and toddler group which met on a Tuesday afternoon has disbanded so if you are interested in forming a similar type group please get in touch with the Committee via our website enquiries@chellastoncommunityassociation.co.uk who may be able to assist you in some way to re-instate an activity for Mums and toddlers to meet up for a chat, some refreshments and to let the children have a play.
As a community group the Association were invited along with other groups within Chellaston to participate in the Christmas tree festival held at St Peter’s Church December 5th and 6th. Two of the committee decorated a small Christmas tree with silver and gold card stars with the names of the 25 groups who hire the centre on a regular basis. St Peter’s Church looked splendid with around 30 trees of various sizes positioned around the church and we were pleased to participate and look forward to taking part again next year.
A big thank you to the Spirit of Chellaston team for organising the Christmas Event at the Chellaston Club (The Legion) on December 5th. Despite the extremely windy weather which resulted in the singing having to take place inside, the “switch on” of the Christmas tree lights in the grounds took place and the participants enjoyed community singing of Christmas songs and carols led by the Community Choir along with refreshments including mulled wine and mince pies. It is hoped that this will be an annual event in the Chellaston calendar.
Finally at the start of the New Year it may be time for you to be thinking of a special event you would like to hold, say for your child’s birthday, an anniversary or just a social occasion. The Centre is an ideal central location offering a large hall, adjacent rooms, full kitchen facilities, parking and a secure outdoor garden. The premises have proved to be very popular for children’s birthday parties over the last 12 months with many parents making arrangements for bouncy castles, slides and inflatables suitable for either inside or outside the building or even themed events. So if you want to start planning for an event and avoid disappointment that the date is not available go to our website www.chellastoncommunityassociation.co.uk and check out the diary or give Joyce a call on 07895386433, a small deposit secures your booking.
