Hello and welcome to our newsletter.

The Spirit of Chellaston event was held on Saturday 15th June and despite the unseasonal weather conditions we had a great turnout of residents, groups and organisations making it a truly fun day for everyone. It takes a lot of hard work for the Chellaston Events Group to put on and therefore a big thank you to Kelvin, Amanda and the team for their dedication to ensuring the continuing success of the event. The CCA Trustees were in charge of refreshments in the Centre ensuring visitors had the opportunity to take a comfort break, rest those weary legs and enjoy some of the food and drink on offer. We would like to thank our helpers and of course the many volunteer bakers who provided a great variety of home-made cakes for you to enjoy.

We took the opportunity to showcase our ideas regarding the future expansion of the Centre with the construction of a multi-activity suite to the west side of the premises and appreciated the feedback received from many visitors. Of course, we have a long way to go in attracting the overall investment needed to see the plans come to fruition and therefore the Trustees will be working with as many organisations as possible in the coming months to move this forward. We continue to welcome any assistance within the Community to help us with this ambitious project which ultimately will provide additional facilities for the benefit of Chellaston and the surrounding neighbourhood. If you can assist in some way we can be contacted on 07895386433 or enquiries@chellastonca.org.

With the school summer holidays beginning towards the end of the month this provides us with the opportunity to carry out further improvements to the Centre. Our external storage building is in poor condition so both ourselves and Playdays pre-school playgroup have been fundraising for a replacement. With some financial support from Persimmons we have been able to purchase a more substantial and secure building to hold equipment for both ourselves and Playdays. This we envisage being in place towards the end of next month, ready for the commencement of the new school year.

Now what about some gentle exercise and refreshments for the not so young. Otago run by Helen Ainger has been operating most Tuesday afternoons at the Centre from 14.15 to 15.45. These classes are mainly seated exercises working at your own pace using the magic of music to promote health, increase your mobility and independence, improve your strength, co-ordination and balance. The group needs a few more members and it is a great opportunity to make new friends and have some fun. Please spread the word!

Finally, just a reminder that the Centre continues to be a popular location for individual weekend private functions such as children’s parties and we are starting to see quite a number of dates in the calendar being booked from September onwards. We therefore advise you to plan well ahead a deposit will confirm your hire. Check out our website calendar www.chellastonca.org for availability or give our Bookings Secretary a call on 07895386433.
