This month we have a very important date in our calendar when we hold our Annual General Meeting on Saturday 12th October 2019 at 10.30am in the Community Centre. It is a requirement of our Charity status that the Trustees provide information on the past 12 months activities along with presenting our annual accounts. The election of Trustees, who form our Committee to oversee the management of the Centre, will also take place. As part of our Constitution all Chellaston residents over 18 years of age are automatically members of the Association.
We continue to look for “new blood” to join our team and ensure the continuing success of the Community Centre. Our team meets once per month for a two hour evening session together with occasional working parties and fundraising initiatives, so not too onerous even if you have a full time job. It is also a great opportunity to become a Trustee of a charity and gain experience and expertise in working within a Charity environment.
The meeting should last no longer than one hour and will be followed by complimentary refreshments as well as the chance to have a look around the Centre at the continuing improvements being made and meet some of our team. Having sufficient attendees is a requirement to ensure we can hold the meeting so we look forward to seeing as many residents as possible on the day.
The Trustees continue to work on the development of building design proposals and financing initiatives for the future Centre extension. We have an ongoing dialogue with Derby City Council officers as to whether we can establish further S106 funding associated with housing development in our area towards this project such that we can reach a guaranteed 50% of the overall cost. Having this level of monies in place should assist with our various applications to external grant providers for the remaining funds. Finally we are now taking bookings for the hire of the Centre for 2020 and would recommend booking ahead to avoid disappointment. We have some limited dates available for the remainder of the year which also can be viewed on our diary. The Centre is especially popular for children’s parties with over 70 weekend events taking place in the last 12 months. The hall is ideally suited for indoor inflatables (bouncy castles) as well as soft play and the hire includes a large kitchen, adjoining rooms and a secure external area.
