Hello and welcome to our short newsletter.

As we move into April, we normally look forward to spending some time tending to the Centre garden in readiness for the spring and summer months, along with supporting the Chellaston in Bloom initiative. The very wet winter has seen our grassed areas waterlogged and the postponement of the tree pruning planned in February.

Unfortunately, like many other operations, we have had to close the Community Centre with many of us self-isolating to avoid catching this terrible virus. Although closed we are still undertaking essential mandatory maintenance checks required by the local authority for public buildings thereby ensuring we are ready to open as soon as we are allowed to.

The recent announcement regarding the cancellation of the Spirit of Chellaston event in June was not a surprise given the seriousness of COVID -19 and we are sure that this event, which was extremely popular within the community, will be back in 2021.

The Centre is an extremely popular venue for both our regular hirers and one-off private hires. We already have a significant number of weekend hires booked over the coming weeks and months and will continue to monitor the ongoing situation. We will aim to keep in close contact with all hirers regarding their hire arrangements.

Whilst we are closed, the Trustees are still being pro-active in the development of future plans for expanding the Centre. Operating from home our appointed Architect is now working on the building designs necessary for planning consent purposes and we look forward shortly to reviewing these. In the meantime we are looking at all opportunities for financial support to reach out funding target so we can turn these proposals into reality.

Please keep safe, stay at home and where applicable observe social distancing.
