Hello Everyone
As a Covid secure Community Centre we continue to remain open for some of our regular groups who can comply with the latest legislation associated with the pandemic. Unfortunately, a number are unable to operate, however we are retaining their regular hiring slots in the hope that they will be able to restart in the not too distant future. It does look likely that a further delay in the private hiring of our facilities will be inevitable and once again we can only apologise for any disappointment this may cause to perhaps future family events/celebrations.
During the October half term our working party of volunteers managed to spend some time in the garden pruning back many of the shrubs and generally tidying the area ready for some new growth next Spring. As ever maintenance of the building is an ongoing requirement to ensure that our facilities are kept to the high standards we have set ourselves. We continue to look at various energy saving initiatives and are currently working on an electrical scheme associated with new lighting within the main hall.
The Trustees are pleased to report that conditional planning consent for the proposed expansion of the Community Centre has now been granted. Whilst we still have a long way to go, this news is welcome, as it allows us to move to the next stage of the project, undertaking the detail design and competitive tendering phases. We should then be in a position to identify the overall project costs and the level of funding we need to attract from external grant providers to ensure the physical work can commence.
We have previously mentioned that we were working in partnership with Chellaston Residents’ Association to establish a small community garden on land currently occupied by the disused toilet block on High Street. Following an Expression of Interest tender issued by Derby City Council our partnership is the preferred tender. We are now continuing discussions with the various departments within the Council to see how we can move forward and will keep you up to date over the coming months as to how we are progressing.
Finally, we continue to look for volunteers to join our team and put something back into the Community. If you can help, please make contact on 07895386433 or enquiries@chellastonca.org.
