Welcome to our February newsletter.
Despite the pandemic conditions the Centre remains open for very limited activities allowed under the current legislation. Like everyone else, we hope the vaccination programme can be introduced as quickly as possible and will lead to a reduced number of restrictions providing the opportunity to restart more activities as we move into late Spring/early Summer.
The half term school holidays would normally provide the Trustees with the opportunity to undertake some improvement initiatives as well as start to get back into some garden maintenance, however this is on hold. One task we are however planning is for a contractor to clean and seal the pvc floor tiles within the hall annexe and cloakroom areas, which we are advised, should make easier the regular cleaning process.
We are now nearing the stage of securing a supplementary lease for the parcel of land to the west side of the building and south of the existing perimeter fenced area and you may have seen an advert in the local press regarding the release of this land. The new lease will assist us with continuing our efforts to secure the necessary funding for the construction of the West End Annexe. This ambitious project will provide much needed additional Community space within the Chellaston District Centre as we move forward from the pandemic, when facilities can reopen and the wide range of available activities within Chellaston recommence.
We continue to progress the detail design of the West End Annexe and look forward to being in a position to showcase the building design information to the general public. Inviting Chellaston residents and the surrounding neighbourhood to a complimentary coffee morning at the Centre is something we are planning perhaps on a Saturday morning when circumstances allow. This will also provide the opportunity for potential new hirers and voluntary organisations to view our plans, timescales and the facilities we are aiming to incorporate, and of course anyone who has not visited the Centre before.
Hiring the Centre for private events unfortunately continues to be out, certainly until early Summer at the earliest. We are accepting enquiries and temporary bookings after this on the understanding that we are governed by the pandemic legislation. Enquiries can be made by contacting our bookings secretary on 07895386433.
