Hello and welcome to our newsletter.

Well later this month we hope to see many of the COVID restrictions fully removed allowing the Centre to get back to some level of normality. Some of our regular groups have now restarted after the May 17th Step 3 roadmap announcement but continue to operate under Covid secure conditions at the Centre. If you are interested in Zumba, Yoga, and Tae Kwondo activities you can find information by visiting the centre diary on our website http://chellastonca.org/chellaston-community-centre-diary. It may be September before we see a full complement of activities as well as any new groups starting, so we will aim to keep you updated through various social media streams.

We have now started to take private hire bookings for one off events, children’s parties being the popular choice. Hiring the Centre includes our main 150 square metre hall, adjoining ancillary rooms, kitchen with full cooking facilities and secure external garden area. The Centre, pre-COVID, has been a much sought-after facility for private hire so if you are planning a forthcoming child’s birthday party or perhaps a family event making a booking as early as possible is recommended to avoid disappointment. You can view our facilities by visiting our website http://chellastonca.org or checking out the photo album on the Centre facebook page.

Our two key future projects i.e., expanding the Community Centre and creating the Community Garden on High Street continue to progress albeit at a slow pace. We now have a legal agreement in place for the piece of land to the west of the Centre, so the Trustees are now concentrating on raising the necessary funds to finalise the detail building design as the next step.

We have submitted a planning application for the demolition of the former toilet block on High Street and the creation of the garden and await the outcome. In the meantime, the CCA/CRA partnership is working with the Council to establish a lease for the area in question as well as continuing with efforts to raise the overall funding for the project.

Finally, a reminder that next month, subject to the removal of COVID restrictions, we will see the Spirit of Chellaston event take place on Saturday 10th July on Swarkestone Road Park commencing at 12.00. A variety of stalls are planned with many voluntary organisations and groups in attendance as well as Armstrongs Children’s Fun Fair. We do hope you will take the opportunity to attend and perhaps catch up with friends and neighbours you have not seen during the pandemic. The Trustees will be managing refreshments, including traditional hot dogs, in the Centre with all profits going towards our Centre expansion project, which will also be showcased on the day. If you can help on the day in the kitchen or on refreshments, please give Joyce a call on 07895386433.
