Hello and welcome to our newsletter.
It is school holiday time, so the Centre is much quieter and a chance to carry out some internal and garden maintenance, especially removing the weeds which never stop growing around the perimeter fencing and building.
We have some positive news on both our projects. Last month we were advised that we had secured a grant from the National Lottery towards the development of the detail design of the West End annexe. Design completion will enable the Trustees to establish a firm building cost and the selection of a building contractor. It will also identify the shortfall in funds to construct the annexe and we will then embark on applying to various funding bodies for financial assistance. We were hoping to showcase the plans at the Spirit of Chellaston event last month, which was sadly cancelled due to COVID, so arrangements will be put in place for residents to view the plans at our forthcoming AGM on Saturday 2nd October 2021 at 10am. A short meeting will be followed by complimentary refreshments, and we welcome the opportunity for residents to view plans and discuss with the Trustees.
The Community Garden, ex disused toilet block on High St, has moved a step forward with the CCA now the leaseholder for this building. Planning permission has also been granted for the garden and the building demolition. This is a partnership project with our CRA colleagues, and the next stage is to finalise individual costs for all the work elements and to embark on a fundraising campaign at local and national levels. The partnership still aims for this to be completed in 2022 and if you can assist in anyway, please get in touch with the CCA or CRA contacts.
We are now taking bookings for private hire events, family, and children’s parties and if you are planning an event, please visit our website and view the facilities and availability on www.chellastonca.org or call Joyce on 07895386433.
Finally, we know it has been a challenging time for everyone over the last 18 months and we look forward to a period of stability when we can concentrate on providing more community opportunities for residents. We are still looking for local people to join our team as volunteers or becoming a Trustee of the CCA. Our team are not getting any younger and like a football team it would be nice to attract a younger element to ensure the Centre continues to thrive, no “transfer” fees are involved! If you can assist, we would appreciate you contacting us via enquiries@chellastonca.org or call 07895386433.
