Hello and welcome to our newsletter.
The Spirit of Chellaston event was held last month and despite the weather conditions it was a success and good to see it back on the calendar after 2 missed years. Our thanks go out to all those participating especially the Chellaston event organising team who do all the hard work in preparation and setting up and clearing away on the day. Also, a big thank you to our Community Centre team and volunteers feeding and watering visitors attending. Let’s hope for some sunshine at the 2023 event.
Residents also had the opportunity at the end of June to join the Community Garden Partnership Team at the opening of the Community Garden on High Street, followed by refreshments at the Community Centre and the opportunity to view photographs taken during the construction programme. We hope the Community will look after this area given the hard work carried out by the team in generating the funds needed and overseeing the project. The involvement of some of Chellaston’s voluntary groups in the decision-making process about the garden design and content has been warmly welcomed. It has enabled us to ensure we have provided a little background information about Chellaston as a legacy for the next generation.
We continue to look for funds to address a shortfall in the overall project cost and have been advised that our application to the Tesco Community Grant Scheme for some assistance has been successful. Our project will now be put forward to a customer vote in local Tesco stores which includes Chellaston, Alvaston, Chaddesden and Derby City Centre.
To vote, you will need to make a purchase within store of any value. You will receive one token per transaction and it’s not necessary to purchase a carrier bag in order to receive a token.
Voting will commence in store from the first week of July 2022 and continue until 30th September 2022. The project with the highest number of votes across our region will receive £1,500, the second placed project £1,000 and the third placed project £500.
If you have the opportunity when visiting a local Tesco store, we would appreciate you casting your vote as soon as you receive your token in favour of this community project. You can also still donate to the project, your contribution can be made via https://chellaston.org.uk (PayPal or card).
Finally, just a reminder that the Community Centre is available for hire for private family events, please visit our website to take a video tour and for more details go to www.chellastonca.org or give us a call on 07895386433. We have some weekend dates available over the coming months which may be suitable for a children’s birthday party.
