Hello everyone and welcome to our first newsletter of 2023.
First, we would like to wish all residents and hirers and users of the Community Centre a happy and prosperous New Year despite the difficulties we are seeing in our community and City at present.
The Community Garden played a small part in the Christmas Celebrations last month with Christmas Carol singing, followed by residents later enjoying mulled wine and mince pies at the Community Centre. The Community Garden Partnership team have invested in some Christmas decorations to light up the garden, so we hope that this can be an annual event in the future.
We are now operating the main hall to nearly full capacity with plenty of activities providing the opportunity for you to enjoy, especially if you are looking to reduce any excess pounds from your Christmas festivities. Our large meeting room has some availability for small group activities both in the daytime and evening so if you are interested in organising something please get in touch. You can view the “What’s on” diary on our website https://chellastonca.org/chellaston-community-centre-diary
The Trustees have been continuing to develop expansion plans for the Community Centre and are now looking to extend the large meeting room into a self-contained activity suite. The aim is to double the open space area along with installing toilets, a small kitchen with servery, storage room and an outdoor patio leading onto an enclosed garden area. The entrance will be via an external porch feature on the north elevation accessed from the pathway adjacent to the library. We now look to going forward with a planning application before embarking on the detail design of the facility we would like to introduce. Given the construction industry market conditions we are unable at present to put a definite timescale as to when we will see this completed.
Perhaps now is the time to start planning a forthcoming event such as your child’s birthday celebration, we have had a surge in bookings already for January and February. The Centre is an extremely popular venue with the facility allowing space provision either inside or within the secure garden for inflatable equipment such as bouncy castles. Hire is available all-day Saturday and Sunday afternoon. A deposit will secure your booking, go to our website to see a video tour of the facilities and for more details https://chellastonca.org/hiring-a-room
