Hello and welcome to our April newsletter.
We hope that you are looking forward to the Easter break and the chance to start the many spring and summer tasks on your “to do” list. Moving the clocks forward is always the sign for our Committee to start to undertake some of the essential maintenance work, especially in the garden where we will be endeavouring to create another display of flowers and shrubs for our party hirers who make use of this area during the summer months. We always welcome anyone who has a couple of hours spare during the week, normally a Monday afternoon, to assist us so if you are available give us a call on 07895386433.
We continue to look for grant funding opportunities for two projects we have identified these being the refurbishment of the lobby toilets and improvements to our large meeting room. We have submitted applications to two funders and await notification if we have been successful in passing initially the first stage. The toilets whilst operational are dated and a continual maintenance headache and we would like to bring these up to a much higher standard for our users. The large self contained meeting room has limited daylight and we would like to enlarge the windows and improve both the external and internal doors as well as decorate the area. We believe that this would make a better environment and encourage more use of this room especially in the daytime for both social groups and possible coffee mornings in addition to the fitness sessions and meetings which currently take place in this area.
The Monday Club indoor sports group has now finished until October when they will resume for the winter months so this means that on Mondays afternoon as well as a Thursday afternoon the hall is free for hire. Just a reminder as to what activities are currently taking place at the Community Centre.
In the main hall Playdays Opportunity Group operate each weekday morning along with Wednesday and Friday afternoons for pre-school children. Monday also sees the Funky Phantomettes session followed by Brownies who also operate on a Tuesday evening. A Tuesday afternoon sees some gentle exercise for the not so young with refreshments and in the evening a Zumba group followed by a Taekwondo veterans class. A 2 hour Taekwondo session followed by a high intensity fitness class completes Wednesday’s operations in the hall. Thursday includes a Soul Fitness class followed by a further Taekwondo session. Friday includes a tea time Irish dancing session, Saturday morning a Soul Fitness and Sunday morning a Martial Arts Class. The large self contained meeting room operates four Pilates classes a week, Yoga, Music teaching and various social groups such as AA. So no excuses for Chellaston and surrounding area residents if you are looking for some exercise or the opportunity to meet with other like minded people.
We are now starting to receive a higher number of enquiries for individual hires for the Community Centre at weekends in the main for children’s birthday parties. With the secure garden facility this provides an ideal area for the children to run around or indeed a place for inflatable equipment such as Bouncy Castles ensuring that you can specifically tailor the event for your party rather than having to share facilities at some of the commercial premises locally. Our diary on our website www.chellastoncommunityassociation.co.uk provides information regarding availability and to avoid disappointment in not being able to secure your date we recommend some early planning. Availability on a Saturday is from 10.30am until 11pm and Sundays from 1pm through to 5.30pm. Our facebook page provides photographs of our facilities. Joyce our Bookings secretary can be contacted on 07895386433 if you would like some more information or you have a question about hiring. We rely on our hire income to help maintain the running of the Centre.
Finally an early reminder that the Spirit of Chellaston event will take place on Saturday 17th June 2017 from 12 till 5pm on the Recreation Ground adjacent to the Centre. The SOC events team are actively working on the schedule and we will once again be opening the Centre to allow the use of our facilities and be providing refreshments for sale to attendees. We welcome any assistance residents can offer to help with the tasks in the Centre during the day whether this is setting up, clearing tables, washing up or preparing and serving refreshments. If you can assist please make contact through our contact number above or speak with any of our Committee members.
