Hello and welcome to our May newsletter.
We are pleased to report that we have been awarded a grant to the value of £750 from Persimmons Community Champions fund and we are planning to install some internal notice boards and leaflet dispensers within the Centre lobby area and the large meeting room. These will provide a better presentation of what the Centre has on offer along with information of activities taking place in and around Chellaston.
As mentioned last month obtaining grant funding for both small and larger amounts is the only way we can continue to support the modification and improvement programmes we have identified at the Centre. Every little helps and since the current administration took office in 2013 we can report that we have obtained 9 grants totalling £15k. This along with good financial management of our revenues and overheads has allowed the Trustees to undertake over £40k of Centre improvements in the past 3 years.
We have two significant modernisation improvements to the main toilets and large meeting room and cloakroom planned at over £30k and currently are waiting to hear whether we have been successful in our applications for grant funding assistance. These improvements will make a significant contribution to overcoming maintenance issues as well as providing a better social environment for existing and potential hirers of the large meeting room along with some much needed storage space for our furniture.
In recent weeks we have had a flurry of enquiries and bookings for individual weekend hires as we normally expect for the peak summer months when the opportunity to utilise the garden facilities takes precedence especially with children’s parties along with the inevitable bouncy castle. If you are thinking about planning an event and considering the Community Centre our diary on our website www.chellastoncommunityassociation.co.uk displays the up to date status of availability, if you would rather wish to speak to someone our bookings secretary Joyce can be contacted on 07895386433.
The Spirit of Chellaston event takes place next month on Saturday 17th June 2017 starting at 12 through to 5pm on the recreation ground adjacent to the Community Centre. This is the fifth year the event has been run and it can be viewed as a fun day for all age groups, offering a wide variety of activities, stalls and sideshows, ranging from “on stage” performances by The Chellaston Academy, the Community Choir, Dance Groups, Church Together and other selected entertainers. The inclusion in recent times of some fun fair rides provides something for everyone to look forward to and of course to meet with new or catch up with old friends, neighbours and colleagues. The CCA committee will once again be providing light refreshments in the Community Centre hall and garden with our profits being put towards our Centre modernisation programme and we look forward to seeing you there. Any help with possibly baking a cake or assisting on the day would be much appreciated, please give Joyce a call on the number above.
Chellaston History Group is planning on the day to showcase a continuous loop of photographs of old Chellaston in a cinema type environment using one of our Community rooms. This will include some photographs of the Community Centre being built 30 years ago so an opportunity to view the changing face of Chellaston and show newcomers what our “village” was like.
